Holiday Gift
It's that time of year where everything is supposed to be joyful, yet when you're a teacher it's more stressful! Don’t get me wrong, I love the holidays and seeing how excited the kids are. However, it seems to be the part of the year where we tend to have both too much and not enough time. Not sure how that happens…
Something that always seems to happen is me forgetting to do holiday gifts. We like to have the students make something to give to the people in their lives that are important. Great idea in theory. having 20 something first graders make anything, not so great. It’s especially challenging because you want it to be nice, but you also don’t want to have to spend forever making the gift. The past few years I’ve also realized I don’t want to spend a ton of money on the materials for the gifts of 20 something kids.
Most teachers tend to make the same gift every year, which is totally fine. I like to make it different each year. I’ve found that I have repeat families or I have kids who have made the same craft for two years already. I like to try and make it special each year. I’ve done things such as snow globes, handprint wreaths, coasters with pictures, keychains, you name it, and I’ve probably tried it. As a mom I’ve realized the presents I enjoy getting are ones that I can keep out all year and honestly, that are useful. So, taking my own preferences and experiences in mind I created an easy gift for kids to make.
The holiday gift calendar is a 2024 calendar ready to print and assemble. The only thing you will need besides paper and basic supplies are mini clothespins. I got a pack of 24 at the dollar tree but you can defiantly find them cheaper other places. The best part about this calendar is that it is completely adjustable to fit the needs of your students. There are 3 types of calendars, two types of art to make. You can include a writing, or not. It can even be made as a whole sheet instead of a half. The project can be what you want. Once the kids are done you can throw it in a bag, attach a card and be done!
I love that it allows the kids to still be creative but doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg. I also love that it still has sentimental value with the fingerprint flower. You can follow along with a video, OR, put the video on for your students to follow while you get other things done. It also comes with step-by-step directions with pictures! I hope that you love it as much as I do, and hopefully it brings a little peace and joy for this season.
